ToggleThe Adcash team dives into the biggest sports traffic window of the year, packed with GEO picks, top offers, and creative angles.
Hands up who enjoyed the incredible spikes during the World Cup?
We thought so.
Although this summer was a truly unique cash cow, the fun doesn’t have to end there.
Welcome to September and the golden hour for sports traffic.
Right now, the NFL just kicked off.
F1 is deep into its calendar.
The NBA and NHL are building up hype before the season gets underway.
MLB is soaring into the postseason.
Europe’s domestic football leagues are also a few weeks into their own seasons, with the Champions League group stage starting up too.
Affiliates have a 3-month window where all these sports (and more) are on at the same time.
I don’t think we need to tell you what an opportunity that is.
And it’s not like there’s any oversaturation either.
More than enough opportunities to go around.

🚀 The numbers back it all up.
EMARKETER expects 122.7 million US adults to watch live sports digitally this year, ahead of the 110.3 million still watching on traditional TV. 🚀 The numbers back it all up.
Nielsen's latest Tops of Sports report puts NBA average audience up 27% and NHL regular season viewership up 25%. |
Countries to Target
With so many different sports at your fingertips, it’s impossible to list every single GEO that’s going to prove successful for you, but there are some general fail-safes to always keep in mind.
Sorry for sounding super obvious, but for North American sports, the USA and Canada will be your go to countries.
Sports like the NFL and NBA are becoming increasingly popular in Europe though.
It’s worth experimenting with places like the UK, Germany, France and Spain.
For sports like soccer and F1, stick with those European traffic giants alongside soccer-mad American countries like Mexico and Brazil.
To make it easy for you, Adcash has made a sports calendar, with all the major events in one place. It’s a perfect page to bookmark and keep referring to.
Region – North America
Priority GEOs – the USA, Canada
Characteristics – Sports betting is legal and regulated across most US states and Canadian provinces, and this region is home turf for four of the six sports in scope: NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB.
What to expect – The highest CPA payouts in this list, but also the most competition and the highest CPCs.
Regulation is fragmented rather than national.
Legality still varies by US state and Canadian province, so blanket country-level targeting can waste spend in restricted areas.
Check state and provincial rules before scaling.
Region – Europe
Priority GEOs – the UK, Germany, France
Characteristics – Football is the shared thread, not a shared culture.
Premier League, Bundesliga, and League 1 each dominate their own domestic market, and Champions League knockout rounds are what pulls interest across all three at once.
F1 also has a strong following given how many race weekends land in Europe.
What to expect – Reliable betting conversion, but heavier compliance overhead than the other two regions.
The UK runs betting ads through the Gambling Commission and ASA, Germany licenses at the state level under its Interstate Treaty on Gambling, and France oversees betting through the ANJ.
Treat UK, Germany, and France as three separate creative markets rather than one “Europe” campaign, language and regulation differ enough that a single approach underperforms.
Region – LATAM
Priority GEOs – Mexico, Brazil, Colombia
Characteristics – Football culture runs deeper here than almost anywhere else on this list.
Brazil in particular is no longer just a growth story, it formally regulated sports betting at the federal level in 2025 and is already the world’s fifth-largest betting market by revenue, behind only the US, UK, Russia, and Italy.
What to expect – Lower CPA payouts than North America or Europe, but lower competition and CPCs too, so margins can work out better at volume.
Read the Calendar
Paying close attention to the calendar is vital.
It saves wasted budget and allows you to go all out for the biggest events.
Watch for rivalries and blockbuster events, especially if they’re at peak times of the day.

The Sports Calendar 📅NFL Opening weeks, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the playoff run into February. Champions League Group stage traffic is steady, but knockout rounds and the final create sharp jumps. F1 The races are the number one event, but don’t sleep on the rest of the weekend. Qualifying and the build-up are growing rapidly in popularity. NBA and NHL October tip-off, All-Star breaks, and playoff pushes each behave differently. MLB Postseason is obviously huge. Look for head-to-heads that go deep. The more games played, the bigger the traffic will be. |
Which Offers to Run
Sports and iGaming obviously go hand in hand. When you’re planning the next quarter, this is going to be the key vertical to focus on.
But it’s not the only one.
Sports is slowly seeping into other areas of people’s lives too, and a global audience sets things up perfectly for verticals like VPNs and streaming services.
iGaming and sports betting is the obvious one.
Every match, race, and game creates a new betting market, and betting apps live or die on how well they catch the moment before kickoff.
Streaming and VPN offers ride a quieter but bigger wave.
Rights are scattered across more platforms than ever: broadcast, streaming exclusives, regional blackouts.
Fans without the right subscription or the right location are actively looking for a way to watch.
eCommerce is on the rise in sports circles.
Replica jerseys are bigger than ever, and fan merch is getting more creative every year, from dog outfits to branded hot sauce.
Sweepstakes and fantasy just make sense.
Put a signed jersey or a bracket-contest prize behind a five-second entry form, or a free-to-play fantasy contest tied to Sunday’s big game, and the offer sells itself.
The Best Creative Angles
Straight to the point: be specific.
With so many sports all happening at the same time, it can be easy to run a generic post covering everything.
Less effort, more coverage.
Fans have caught on though.
Whether it’s ad fatigue, or simply too many ads all with the same message, generic doesn’t cut it anymore.
Mention the team, mention the stadium, even mention the star players.
Anything that gets the fans connected or emotionally bought in.
Storylines are vital.
Another reason to follow the calendar closely.
The more you know what’s going on, the more people will realise your creatives are worth paying attention to.
A few formats worth testing:
- Second-screen reaction content: short clips that just feel like someone messaging a friend mid-game
- Interstitial creative built around one live stat or matchup detail, made for the half-second before a page loads
- Simple headline formulas tied to the moment: “Why [team] is favored this week,” “What to watch for in [race/match],”
Best Ad Formats for Sport
Just like the creatives themselves, it’s important to vary the formats themselves.
Different formats work for various parts of a sports season, the sports themselves, and even when in the match they appear.
In-Page Push and Interstitial – great for in-game, building on storylines, stats and reactions to major news.
Pop-Under – perfect for big-game/fight build-up.
Setting the scene, making a tailored offer, getting into the minds and hearts of fans.
Video – the latest merch out in the wild, displaying fan’s emotion better than any static ad ever could, or just being able to showcase sports action up close.
Start Earning This Season
So with that, you’re ready to make the most of the hundreds and thousands of sports offerings in the coming months.
A couple of things to remember, above all else:
- Map every and any major sports fixture out. Have them in one place that’s visible and easy to access.
- Build separate campaigns – break things down, not just by sport, but by GEO and device.
- Keep budgets flexible so you can go hard on the peaks, and ease off on quieter days.
- Refresh creatives regularly. Things don’t get stale, and creatives can be tailor-made for every major event.
That’s more than enough to get started.
Good luck out there.
