alone to guide us.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, we have to analyse all the pros and cons, taking all risks into consideration, <strong>trying to come up with the best solution available<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This need for analysis and for actually knowing where you\u2019re going to before making a move is fundamental in the Media Buying realm.<\/p>\n<p>It not only defines what sort of Media Buyer you\u2019re bound to become \u2013 it\u2019s also that which separates success from failure.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when buying traffic, you\u2019ll notice that different ad networks <em>provide different bidding options.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s CPM, CPC, CPV and some ad networks even let you choose how you prefer to work.<\/p><div class=\"mobid-in-content-15-p\" style=\"margin-top: 26px;margin-bottom: 26px;\" id=\"mobid-3689271189\"><div class=\"mobid-adlabel\">Advertisement<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/recommends\/semrush-v2\/\" rel=\"noopener hand.<\/p>\n<p>You need to understand all the intricacies and details.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because you\u2019ll have to know each specific model in order to make the right decisions and get that sweet money!<\/p>\n<p>Ready?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-is-cpm\"><\/span><strong>What is CPM?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>CPM stands for cost per 1000 impressions.<\/p>\n<p>This means you\u2019re setting the price you wanna pay for a thousand impressions of your banner\/popunder for the users to view.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-is-cpc\"><\/span><strong>What is CPC?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>CPC\u00a0means cost per click on your ad.<\/p>\n<p>It means you\u2019ll pay for each click on your banner.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, let\u2019s define CPV.<\/p>\n<p>It stands for cost per unique visitor.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"cpc-vs-cpm-the-battle\"><\/span><strong>CPC vs CPM: The Battle<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve adumbrated the three different models, let\u2019s understand the dynamics at play here.<\/p>\n<p>First, you should never forget that Media Buying is all about the number of conversions each specific ad is generating.<\/p>\n<p>On a CPC basis, for instance, you\u2019re paying for clicks directly while also <strong>avoiding an additional step-for-click to be done.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the reason why a click seems to be more valuable than an impression.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s basically why CPC <em>may seem to be the best choice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>However, that\u2019s not always the case!<\/p>\n<p>If you work on a CPM basis &#8211; and you pay per impression &#8211; you need to get the maximum number of clicks possible from these impressions.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, your banners should be attractive in order to motivate users to click on them.<\/p>\n<p>You need to work hard on banners. Indeed, it is crucial that you test them, analysing how your CTR \u00a0changes depending on the colour, text, or image of the banner.<\/p>\n<p>This testing process has one aim only:<\/p>\n<p>Increasing your CTR!<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the following example:<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s assume you can choose to buy the same quality traffic either for $1 CPM or for $0.05 CPC.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine you&#8217;ve got a budget of $100.<\/p>\n<p>If you buy on a CPC basis, you\u2019ll receive $100\/$0.05=2000 clicks.<\/p>\n<p>If you work on CPM &#8211; for the same money &#8211; you could get 1 000*$100\/$1 = 100 000 impressions.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s imagine that the CTR of your banner is 1% (which is normally low).<\/p>\n<p>In this case, you\u2019re going to get 100 000 * 1% = 1 000 clicks <strong>from the same budget.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, if your CTR is higher (3%, for example) you\u2019ll receive 100 000 * 3% = 3 000 clicks for that same budget.<\/p>\n<p>What did you learn from this? Easy!<\/p>\n<p>You can see that the CPM model might be the most profitable, if your CTR is higher (meaning you\u2019re able to get more clicks).<\/p>\n<p>This is the reason why \u2013 when working on a CPM basis \u2013 you need to <em>really analyse and optimize your banners.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This requires you to step up to the plate and give it your best.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, CPM allows you to buy traffic from premium spots (with a very high CTR).<\/p>\n<p>The CPM method is much cheaper than using a CPC bidding system, since you can receive the same number of clicks and conversions <strong>while paying a lower amount of money.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you choose to work on CPM there\u2019s one more parameter you can play with and which can bring you some additional income:<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/frequency-capping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">frequency capping<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This means that you can increase the number of impressions.<\/p>\n<p>This will bring you conversions and you can play with the frequency cap to get the opposite effect.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, you can limit them, even if they bring you clicks but don\u2019t convert.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, if you\u2019re using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/misleading-banners-vs-non-misleading-banners\/\">misleading banners<\/a> and promise your users they\u2019ll be able to watch or download amazing video content (but at the end they eventually land on some lousy game) you\u2019ll be<strong> ruining their expectations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this case, you\u2019ll get a whole lot of clicks, but a disappointingly low level of conversions.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Due to the fact that you hoodwinked users, promising them a sort of awesome content that <em>they ended up not being able to see.<\/em><\/p><div class=\"mobid-in-content-15-p_2-2\" style=\"margin-top: 26px;margin-bottom: 26px;\" id=\"mobid-1386535494\"><div class=\"mobid-adlabel\">Advertisement<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/recommends\/semrush-v1\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"backlinks\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1.png\" alt=\"\"  srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1.png 970w, https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1-250x52.png 250w, https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1-700x144.png 700w, https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1-768x158.png 768w, https:\/\/www.mobidea.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PD-970x250-Discover-backlinks-faster-than-ever-1-120x25.png 120w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px\" class=\"no-lazyload\" width=\"970\" height=\"200\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>This means they\u2019re discontent and obviously won\u2019t make a purchase.<\/p>\n<p>This attitude of some Media Buyers is simply nonsensical because \u2013 it being that you\u2019re paying per each click \u2013 it\u2019s stupid to mislead users who won\u2019t even end up buying your content.<\/p>\n<p>Get it?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re talking about a whole lot of mindless clicks you pay for without none of the return, since users won\u2019t buy what you\u2019re selling.<\/p>\n<p>I suggest you use CPC only in case your <strong>banner matches your product.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This is how you make sure users who click on the banner actually want to purchase that specific offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If the traffic quality from the ad network you\u2019re trying to buy on is not amazing because you feel there is a lot of bot traffic (meaning robots will view the page, but will never click and convert) it is more logical to use the CPC method.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re basically going to <em>pay only for real people clicking on the banner.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This means you won\u2019t spend money on irrelevant bot impressions as you would on CPM.<\/p>\n<p>Working with CPC is obviously more stable.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you always know how much you need to spend in order to get a certain number of clicks.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5;\">The CPM model is riskier, especially if you\u2019ve tested the wrong banner, or if your users have gotten tired of your creatives. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; line-height: 1.5;\">In these cases, your CTR can go down.
